Our Facade Engineering Process

01

Knowledge and Understanding

We define clear project goals—whether for statutory compliance, life safety, asset protection, or environmental and reputational considerations. Our initial contributions help set solid foundations for each project. We apply our detailed understanding of codes and standards to every aspect of facade engineering, from initial strategies and plan reviews to comprehensive application in detailed designs.

02

Identify and Implement

We guide the wider design team in establishing minimum standards and appropriate specifications for facade systems. We facilitate the supplier selection process during bidding, ensuring all queries are addressed effectively. We ensure all project aims are met, focusing on compliance, life safety, and asset protection through detailed engagement from start to finish.

03

Checks and Application

Our presence during system testing ensures all active and passive facade elements perform to their expected standards before building handover.

04

Ongoing

Post-construction, we conduct facade-specific risk assessments and provide ongoing support to ensure all safety and compliance requirements are met. As buildings evolve, so do their facade needs. Our expertise is crucial for assessing risks associated with any building modifications or refurbishments.

EWS1 Surveys and FRAEW Appraisals

As Chartered Members of the CIOB and IEng registered with IFE, we are endorsed as external wall surveyors for buildings of all heights. We conduct comprehensive assessments necessary for EWS1 certification and FRAEWs, ensuring compliance with legal obligations under the Fire Safety Act 2021 and other regulations.
MH Fire Safety Ltd. carries out EWS1 surveys to evaluate the fire safety of a building’s external wall systems and attachments, such as balconies and fire barriers, as required by financial institutions. The EWS1 process allows building owners to confirm that a competent expert has assessed these elements, reassuring lenders and insurers that the external walls are safe and do not require costly remedial work. This risk management tool is essential to securing financing or insurance for residential properties and may also complement a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW) if a more detailed analysis is needed
MH Fire Safety Ltd. conducts Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW) assessments according to PAS 9980, ensuring compliance with the Fire Safety Act 2021. The PAS 9980 standard, developed by the British Standards Institution with industry expert input, outlines a methodical, evidence-based approach to identify and assess risk factors in a building’s construction, alongside mitigation steps that may improve its fire risk rating. Where a full FRAEW is not required, MH Fire Safety Ltd. can also provide a streamlined assessment of the external wall system, helping responsible parties fulfill their legal obligations efficiently
